Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that isn't covered here, please reach out via email at tapyourwayhome@gmail.com, or submit a contact form

Can I use my Mental Health Care Plan?

I am currently in the process of attaining my Mental Health Accreditation. I am unable to claim Medicare rebates until this time. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan, please email me at tapyourwayhome@gmail.com to discuss options. Or reach out via my contact form.

Can I bring my child?

Sometimes it's hard to access counselling when you have no one to look after your child. You can bring them along with you, but it will mean that we have to work together to get the most out of the session while also protecting little ears. This might look like me holding your baby if you're getting a bit upset, or older kids wearing headphones and watching something or listening to music. If you want to bring your child along, please just let me know by emailing me at tapyourwayhome@gmail.com so that we can talk about your needs ahead of time.

Do we have to do EFT/Tapping?

No! EFT/Tapping is one of the approaches I use to counselling, but it is definitely not the only approach. We can connect and work on topics that are important to you without doing any EFT/Tapping. If you're a little bit curious, that's okay too. We can try it and see if it's for you without any pressure to continue working that way if you don't like it.

How do I contact you?

You can email me at tapyourwayhome@gmail.com, or reach out via my contact form

Will you keep my information private?

I will keep your information private in line with my privacy policy and confidentiality agreement.

I will take brief notes so that we can remember what we worked on in session. You can see these notes at any point.

If a lawyer requests my notes as part of a court process. I may need to comply with this request. If this happens, I will make every attempt to contact you first. My notes are written knowing that it is possible this may occur. If you are concerned about this, please book an introduction call to discuss further.

How long can I work with you?

How long we work together will depend on what you need from counselling, your financial commitment, and our therapeutic relationship.

You may see me once or twice, regularly for a year or more, or just every now and then.

I might talk to you about ending our therapeutic relationship if I think someone might be better able to support you. This will never be because of anything you have done, and will be a conversation we have together.

You can decide to stop coming at any point, but I might reach out if I think that we need to close the work together, or that you could benefit from being supported to find someone else to work with.

Do I have to talk about my childhood?

What you talk about in a counselling session is up to you! With EFT/Tapping we might be able to work on some topics without you talking about them at all. If you don't want to talk about something or do work on a certain topic, then we wont! I might ask you some curious questions, but I will never push you to cover topics that you're not willing to.

If a topic is hard, but you do want to work on it, we will go gently and slowly so that you can remain emotionally safe during and after session.

Can I ask questions about you?

You sure can! I can't promise that I will answer all questions though. If you ask me a question, before I answer I will consider what information I'm comfortable sharing, and what impact it might have on our work together. Some questions you might ask me, might come under something call "personal disclosure". This is a fancy way of saying me talking about myself in your counselling session. This is something that can be used well if you introduce it into the session, but only in very small and specific circumstances.

For example, me telling you what primary school I went to when you went to one in another state would be irrelevant and probably make you feel like I'm more interested in talking about myself than talking about you. But if you talk about your dog and mention that she's a reactive and energetic cattle dog, I might let you know that I also have a little darling like this (sometimes there's nothing better than knowing someone really gets it without you having to explain lots of context - although sometimes it's still really good to explain the context!)

Can I swear?

Definitely! I actually encourage it because it means that you're being really honest with yourself and with me about how you're feeling.
