Children and Young People

Gentle and powerful support for all young people - no matter what is happening for them

When there is conflict in the home, children and young people are always victims in their own right. They experience the small interactions, they feel the emotions change in the room. They are experts on keeping themselves safe, and will monitor every situation so they can change their behaviour to increase their safety.

When there is tension around a child, they are far more likely to start to believe that there is something wrong with them, than they are to believe there is something wrong with one of their parents. That means that if there is ongoing tension, they are going to take on the message that they are bad in some way, even when no one around them is saying this.

The way children show us that they are feeling unsafe, or the ways they try to increase their safety can look like it doesn’t make much sense to adults. It is easy to misunderstand the behaviour of a child and label them as naughty or bad, when really they are just trying to feel safe in their world.

I love working with children and young people, because if we can help them now while their brains are still developing, they are much less likely to need ongoing help in their adulthood. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) also known as Tapping is a particularly powerful tool for children.

It works so well for them for a few reasons:

  1. They don’t have to talk much, or at all

  2. It gets them moving

  3. It doesn’t require them to understand what they are thinking or feeling for it to work

  4. Children have had less years for all deep core beliefs to take route - this can mean that change happens more quickly for them

  5. They take away with them a tool they can use when they have big emotions outside of sessions
